Es Migjorn Gran is a village of merely 1,503 inhabitants in the south of Minorca, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands off the coast of Catalonia. The oldest man in the world as of 2004, 114-year old Joan Riudavets Moll, was born here. As far as Spanish towns go, Es Migjorn Gran was established fairly late: in 1796, around the local church. The town was actually named after the church, which honored St. Christopher, until 1988.
