Barcelona’s most famous street, Las Ramblas, is a central tourist destination covered in shops, entertainment features and fantastic Barcelona hotels. Las Ramblas runs from Plaça Catalunya down to Port Vell. On the south side you can explore the colourful Raval district, while to the north is the Gothic Quarter. Staying in a hotel on or near Las Ramblas puts you in an enviable position to explore Barcelona on foot. You can easily walk to major attractions in any direction – Picasso Museum, Barcelona Aquarium, Casa Mila, La Boqueria – there is no shortage of things to see and do in the near surroundings.
Las Ramblas is something of an exclusive location thanks to its prominence in the city’s tourist mechanism. For this reason, hotels are more expensive here than in other areas of the city, but you can still find a cheap hotel close to Las Ramblas. Cuatro Naciones, for example, is a 2-star budget hotel set in an 18th century building, that retains a great deal of character without charging the earth for the privilege of staying there.
From your hotel on Las Ramblas there are many places to explore. You can sample the delicatessen delights of La Boqueria, which stands on Las Ramblas. You can wander the charming cobbled streets of the Gothic Quarter, taking in Catedral La Seu and Santa Maria del Pi. You can gorge on tapas and pinchos at one of the many bars in El Raval or Barri Gotic. You can easily make it up to Plaça Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia on foot, where you will be able to shop until you drop. Also on Passeig de Gracia you have the chance to discover Gaudi’s famous structures La Pedrera and Casa Batllo. From Las Ramblas you can also walk down to Port Vell, admiring the Columbus statue on your way there.
