Plaza de Espagna Barcelona

After a day of sightseeing in Las Ramblas, the typical traveler is pretty tired. Las Ramblas is one of the walking tour areas of Barcelona, and the entire tour takes about three hours. Now it's time to grab your book or purchase a newspaper from a nearby vendor and hit Plaza de Espana. Plaza de Espana ("The Magic Fountain") is the home of the Spanish Pavilion built for the 1929 exhibition, the biggest attraction to date until the 1992 Olympics, and is located near the Fair Trade congress, at the end of your last walking tour stop in Las Ramblas. Have your picture taken with the statue of Don Quixote or between one of the two bell towers guarding the entrance to the park. From 1:30 to around 5 p.m. each day Barcelona, like most of Spain, takes a nap. It is during this Siesta time when the sun is the hottest that travelers and locals alike gather at the plazas to relax and wait for the sunset, when Barcelona's night life wakes up. If you get there just after 5, you will see the street vendors and musicians setting up. It would be well worth taking one day out of your vacation to simply sit and people watch in this beautiful plaza.
