The Balmes hotel is a beautiful property located right in the centre of Barcelona, perfect for business people and tourists alike. The Balmes is located next to Passeig de Gràcia and the Rambla de Catalunya, in the main comercial and cultural area of Barcelona.
Just a short distance from the hotel are Rambla Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia, both of which lead us to Plaça Catalunya, the city's nerve centre, and from there to the picturesque Las Ramblas, the cosmopolitan Gothic Quarter and Born neighbourhood, the cathedral, Santa Maria del Mar church and the Picasso Museum.
How to reach the Balmes? From the Barcelona-El Prat international airport: Take the Aerobús to Plaça Espanya. There, take underground L3 green line towards Zona universitària and step off at Sants Estació, where you have to switch to L5 blue line towards Horta. Get off at Diagonal stop and you will find the property only a few minutes walking. From the airport you can also go to the RENFE station 'Passeig de Gràcia'.
By public transportation: The nearest underground station is Diagonal, on the L5 blue line. Buses n. 1, 16, 17, 20, 43 and 44 stop nearby the property.

5 minutes walking distance from the main street, 10-15 mins from la ramblas.. the staff was great, we also had kept our luggage for 3 days, with no extra cost .. amzazing room & serviceAnonymous

In general all our experiences were positive with the exception of the comment below.Having booked 2 rooms we were disappointed that they were not the same size (ours was smaller), bed was smaller and the room was not very light ie you had to have artificial light on all the time as if you drew the curtains other residents could see in to the room whilst gaining access to their rooms.wright

We really enjoyed our stay at the balmes, the staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient, the hotel was clean and the decor was immpressive. we would recommend this hotel and definatley go back again.Anonymous

Good location - lots of local bars and restaurants close by and easy enough to walk (20 mins max) to la rambla and main tourist points (inc the catalunya square where the tourist buses go from) we had a room with a terrace - for the additional cost this was great as it meant we could sit out. the room and bathroom were very clean - fresh towels and bedding daily. we asked staff for a couple of things and they were very helpful. don't be put off by what could be construed as surly reception staff - they were very helpful when asked. the positives definitely outweighed the minor negative points. we didn't eat breakfast at the hotel - lots of choice close by.
Housekeeping was a little lax in that the minifridge wasn't replenished and clean drinking glasses weren't replaced. however, when we asked at reception, these were instantly made available. we'd take a travel kettle next time - we missed a morning cuppa! the biggest negative was that the lager in the hotel bar (which was very quiet) was the worst we had during our trip - that said, with the selection of bars to choose from in the vicinity, we were never going to be stuck for an alternative.
