Barceloneta of Barcelona

Barceloneta, or "little Barcelona" is where the oldest of the Barcelona ports meet s the ocean. It has the best beaches and the best windsurfing, the finest fish houses, and is a year round tourist attraction that you will not want to miss. This is the old fisherman's area of the city, and parts of it are one of Barcelona's well kept tourist secrets. While this is one of the most popular vacation destinations, it is also where you can meet and eat with the real locals. This is where the old men of the sea hang out, and it is well worth getting to know them and finding out where they eat, it probably isn't one of the newer fish houses along the pier. Set away from the hustle of the city, this quiet part of town hasn't changed much. Washer women still hang their laundry from the lines, oblivious of the tourists and their ever present cameras. Men play board games and swap stories, and life moves at a slower pace. This is where the real traveler rather than the tourist want to be, because here is where the real Barcelona is. This is where you can eat what the locals eat, drink what the locals drink, and maybe hear a story or two about how things used to be.
