The hotel is situated very close to plaza espana, gran via, parc montjuic and avinguda parallel. It's also a stone throw from sants train station. Couldn't wish really for a better location having stayed in quite a few different hotels over the city.There's also a very good shopping centre now open on plaza espana which has been in construction for the last 3 years. Lots of shops and cafe's, cinema etc.The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful and always had a smile for us. and the glass of cava on arrival was a lovely touch. Our room was a bit on the small side for two people but well equipped with a lovely wall mounted TV and was cleaned daily and was always spotless.I can't criticise anything really about the hotel. It's one of the best iv'e stayed in in barcelona and is great value for the money. I think the location is spot on but then we do go to watch the barcelona games as well and we don't mind a walk as afterall it's great exercise.Don't read to much into the sleep quality as that's my personal issue im not a good sleeper in a strange place or a bed that's not my own. My girlfriend didn't have any problem at all.Didn't use the gym or the jacuzzi as it was very VERY cold when we were there but we did have a peek and again all clean and tidy and well presented.

Cons: Proximity to city centre although the metro station is less than 5 mins walk from the hotel and runs into centre of barcelona every few minutes.

Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful with getting us oriented in barcelona on our first day. the welcoming champagne and cookies were an unexpected bonus to a group of weary travelers.
Cons: The area looks a little seedy on first impression due to the congestion around the train/bus depot but the hotel itself was great and very easy to get to from the airport. i used google maps to look at the street view and knew exactly how to walk the three blocks from the train station to the hotel. we also could get tickets on the tourist bus at the station so it was a good location from that aspect. we stayed at another (much more expensive) hotel on our last night (selected by the others in our group) and were sorry we hadn't rebooked at the itaca.

hint... book your room without breakfast. you will be offered it at half price on arrival.

Pros: The hotel was situated just 5 mins away from the central station (sants estatio) which was only four stops from the airport which made it easy to get to. although we have stayed in better 4 star accommodation the room was very clean and the breakfast was not too bad. would stay again as its central location made it easy to get to the many tourist attractions
Cons: Would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room instead of being charged 2 euros per day for this service. also the hot food at breakfast was only just warm and food wasn't replenished on a regular basis.

Pros: We found the reception staff when we arrived at 23.00 hours very welcoming and helpful. the were the same when we left at 7.25 on wednesday. our stay was brief but enjoyable.

Cons: Always minor problem with shower (temperature of water could be changed during a minute or (in another room) shower not 100% switch water)
also when we arrived our reservation was not in their systme but staff quickly find similar room (but twin instead of double we asked)
