Hostal Opera in Barcelona - Pictures
Description
The Hostal Opera, as the name indicates, is a hostel; therefore, one cannot expect the same luxuries as those offered by some of the other establishments located in the city centre. However, the Hostal Opera is an excellent option for guests who are willing to forego some of the more elaborate and refined details but still want an ideal, central location.
Located on Carrer Sant Pau, almost at the corner of the famous Rambla, the hostel is close to important tourist attractions like the Boqueria Market and the Gran Teatre del Liceu (one of the absolutely essential gems for any travel photo album).
During the day, it is the perfect place from which to embark on a number of routes, especially those covering the Gothic Quarter, the Raval or the Born. At night the environment can be rather colourful, depending on the moment, but it hosts one of the largest concentrations of bars and restaurants in the entire city.
The hostel itself is simple and excellent value for money. Although it offers no frills, the reasonable rate you pay for a double room right next to the Rambla is a major incentive for choosing this hostel as accommodation during your stay in Barcelona.
Please note: Hostal Opera does not accept AMEX and Diners Club credit cards!

From stepping into the hostal i was treated professionally - my room was in some ways basic, but exceptionally clean and well presented and the bathroom was a good size (unusual). the location was excellent, in the heart of barcelona, so close to le ramblas, but yet distant enough for peaceful sleep.

Room was simple, but clean. it had a large window that opened onto a mini-balcony, which was nice. shower was small, but not by european standards. location was great, just off the ramblas. it was noisy at night (but any hotel below a 4 star in spain is going to be noisy at night).
Daily room cleaning is not optional (we asked for a do not disturb sign because we didn't need the room clean, but were told that having staff clean the room daily was mandatory, not optional). you have to leave your key at the front desk and you can pretty much ask for any key you want because they don't verify. we paid too much for what we got. if we had paid less, the experience would have been fine.

The hotel is in a good location about 2 minutes from the ramblas. it is opposite the liceu theatre. it is very accessible to all parts of barcelona.
At night don't walk down the road the hostel is located on (away from the ramblas) this is entering the raval which is a troubled area. you will find groups of men and women and i needn't say what they are selling.

The room was amazingly clean and the bonus of air conditioning was bliss in barcelona. hotel staff were lovely, and happy to help with improving my spanish language abilities!
While the walls are quite thin and tiled floors make for a bit more noise, just bring some in ear headphones to get you to sleep, and no problems at all!

Staff were very welcoming and provided us with information on the best way to see barcelona and the main attractions. the hostal is run more like a hotel and was in a perfect location-just off la rambla. it is a no frills base which was perfect for us as we were out exploring all day and just used it as a place to sleep. our room was cleaned daily and we had no problems for the duration of our stay.

Excellent location from which to explore; helpful, friendly staff. near the opera house which was useful for taxi drivers drop off point!
The hotel was good value but barcelona seemed very expensive because the pound is so low, because of this tea making facilities would have been a bonus. no hairdryer in room, although cheerfully supplied at reception on request. internet connection available; but no printing facilities, although these were available at internet cafe located in pc city near the hotel

For a budget hotel it is very good value, ideally situated just off the ramblas. 1 member of our party is disabled and the hotel had very good access for his mobility scooter. being on a side street it was very quiet, apart from late night guests coming back and making a lot of noise in the room next to ours, but someone complained and they soon went quiet. would highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again.
No bar or snack bar, so tea and coffee only available from a machine. not sure if they have rooms for severely disabled, ours had a shower over the bath which made it difficult and a bit dangerous for people with walking difficulties. a walk in shower would be better.

Good location. at general good price for value. if you are looking for something simple and decent it 's a good choise.
1) the room was clean at general, but it was actually not cleaned everyday, so it was not that clean at the end of our stay. it could be a little better. 2) the receptionists where not always very helpfull and really friendly. but the youngest of the 3 receptionists we saw there was ok.
