If the Centre Comercial de les Glories is the largest shopping center in Barcelona, El Corte Ingles is by far the biggest single department store, so big, in fact, that they have their own credit card and a branch in Les Diagonal where one may purchase a car. "The English Cut" is the largest department store in Spain, with branches in the two bigger cities, Barcelona and Madrid. In Barcelona, one of two branches is situated in Placa Catalunya, being the most congested shopping spot of the city.

All of the department stores have pretty much the same layout, making it easy for anyone who has ever been in one to find their way around one in another city, which makes for convenience if you are in a hurry or know exactly what you are looking for. On the ground (basement) floor you will find the grocery center, complete with cheeses and wines, or if you are in the market for souvenirs, try the ground or main floor. This is also where you will find cosmetics and accessories, an absolute necessity if you like shopping! After an afternoon of spritzing perfume samples, you can move on up to the other floors where you will find the men's and women's departments, children's clothing, or all the gardening equipment you could ever need-or try to take back with you on the plane!
