Outstanding hotel. Nice bed ,nice bath room.Location in front of a metro access !Breakfast expensive ,but easy to find cheaper in the street . Good price if you book it on the net .I'll be back , if possible.

I stayed in a "triple room" for 3 nights with my parents. Although it was stated as a single bed and a double bed, it was essentially 3 single beds, and one of it was those metal "additional bed" that you usually get from other hotels. They only provided 2 single-sized blanket, 2 towels and everything else in 2. It was quite obvious that we would have needed 3 of them. They also do not provide drinking water.The location of the hotel was quite central, just 10 mins walk from La Ramblas and the sea. Nothing much on the same street, but it is right in front of a metro station.The hotel also doesn't have much of a sound proof system. It was quite noisy at night, where you can hear people walking back to their rooms or walking about upstairs. In the morning, I was quite sure I heard construction sounds! Otherwise, its ok to stay here.

I had requested a nice room ( back room ) and being granted, all the staff were excellent, very helpfull, they had helped us in everything,booking our day tours and helping us for directions. we stayed for 11 days in this hotel and find it excellent. highly recommended !!!!.i would definitely stay in this hotel again..the only thing is, its quite a walk from La Rambla but overall its wonderfull, Metro is just at the front of the hotel and its close to the city centre..

The hotel was of a very high standard and the staff were excellent. The only downside was our room did not have a window, so it felt like we were in a large cupboard !

The hotel was nice the breakfast was great,however we went to the restaurant in the night and the choice was poor and my husbands meat was under cooked. We were the only customers so I think they need to improve the restaurant. The rest of the hotel was fine and the staf were helpful.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Barcelona Universal Hotel. The rooms were neat and tidy. The only complaint I had was when we asked for ice the ice bucket would only be a quarter full and once when I asked for two coffees one black and one with cream the server snippily asked me to make up my mind.

Loved the hotel..It is very centrally located, very clean and beautiful. The only thing I found missing in the room was a window from where I can look outside...but irrespective, it was very comfortable and amazing :)

Great hotel, good location. Expensive breakfast, Make sure your room is not next to the service elevator as there was constant noise from about 7am onwards.

This is a nice, modern hotel that is in one of Barcelona's worst neighborhoods. As you are checking in, there is a framed statement near the desk, warning of all the pickpockets. It's true that Barcelona has "the best pickpockets in the world," but when I'm staying in a nice hotel, I don't expect to see prostitutes and drug dealers at 9 a.m. on a Sunday. This was in the Raval neighborhood, but you must walk through the Raval to get to the Gothic Quarter or the Placa de Catalunya, where the airport buses are. You can find much better hotel deals, and better restaurants that cost much less, in the L'Eixample neighborhood.

The hotel has a great location in the centre of Barcelona. A subway station is located in front of the hotel so you get around very fast. We had a Universal Room at the street side. In the evening and at night we had trouble sleeping due to the street sounds. A lot of traffic, sirens etc. I think the hotel can do better and should invest in proper sound isolation. Besides the noise, the room is very clean and tidy. It's modern as well. Also the breakfast was good with a wide variety of choices in the buffet. The service is great in the hotel, the people are very friendly and helped us getting tickets for Sagrada Familia. When checking in, also read the extensive sign on the reception desk about pickpockets. For me it was too late and they've stolen my phone on the subway.

We had two rooms at this hotel, a double and a triple. Both were immaculate, but the triple was an internal room with no natural light, it was somewhat dark and oppressive and after one night in there we asked for another room. The hotel staff were brilliant and organised an immediate swop and moved all the bags to a bigger, brighter room on the front of the hotel. Maid service excellent, breakfast buffet excellent, reception staff excellent, free laptops in reception and free WI FI everywhere. Serviceable gym, roof top pool disappointingly not heated. Ideal location for Les Ramblas/gothic area/harbour - all about 10 minute walk through interesting streets. Hotel directly outside metro station (as long as you come out the right exit - sorry can't remeber which one that is!). The only negative, if I had to find one, would be the street noise during the night. I'd definitely go back to this hotel, and would not hesitate to recommend it. Just don't book one of the internal rooms, they're a bit dark.

Room over looked the main road so there was traffic noise, but I was ware of this when I booked. Staff very helpfull. Room and Bath room very clean and well serviced. Small swimming pool and sun terrace on roof. Not a bad location to get around from.

We recently went on a cruise to the Mediterranean and stayed overnight on our return in the Barcelona Universal.The reception staff were excellent a smooth checking in.Our rooms were lovely very modern and up to date. Every amenity you would need for a stay in a great hotel available. Beds were really comfy. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Barcelona

Pros: Lovely hotel. staff were very helpful and recommended a lovely tapas cafe when we arrived. lovely little bar on the corner across the road which was great for drinking cava to celebrate the new year!
