Plaza de España is one of Barcelona’s most important transport hubs, and has conference centres, major attractions and numerous hotels nearby. Plaza de España is a great place to stay for access to the wider city. This roundabout stands on Avinguda del Paral-lel and forms a transport hub for road, rail and metro traffic. Trains run from here to El Prat Airport, metros connect to Las Ramblas and Sagrada Familia, and buses run throughout the city. Its position near the foot of Montjuic puts Plaza de España in close proximity to the Olympic village constructed for the 1992 Olympic Games. The numerous Barcelona attractions on Montjuic include Poble Espanyol, Palau Nacional, Font Magica and Castell de Montjuïc.
Standing adjacent to Plaza de España are several more famous Barcelona attractions. Arenas de Barcelona is the city’s former bullfighting arena, which was recently converted into a shopping and entertainment centre. To the north is Parc Joan Miró, a park developed in homage to one of the city’s most famous artists. At the Plaza de España end of Avinguda de la Reina María Christina stand the two Venetian Towers, which were constructed for the 1929 International Exhibition.
