Castellón de la Plana is a medium-sized city of slightly over 170,000 inhabitants, located in the region of Valencia, in the east of Spain. Its foundation can be dated to 1251, right after King James I of Aragon took over the large Moorish castle that stood on a nearby mountain. The king bade people migrate into the plain surrounding the mountain, and eventually walls and a cathedral were built. Nowadays, the old, medieval part of town still stands, a brisk walk from many of the hotels in Castellón de la Plana. However, the original walls were destroyed in the nineteenth century, under the crushing and domineering influence of Napoleon I of France.
These are the most interesting sights in Castellón de la Plana: the Concatedral of Santa Maria, a reconstruction of the original 13th century place of worship; the heavily ornamented City Hall, or "Ayuntamiento," built in the 18th century; and the old marketplace, "Llotja del Canem," now taken over by the local university. Castellón de la Plana hotels are plentiful and varied in price range. Sites like EasyToBook.com can be used to find the discount hotels in Castellón de la Plana and Castellón de la Plana cheap hotels.
