Armilla is a small town in the province of Granada, Spain. Visitors come to budget hotels in Armilla because of the warm, dry Mediterranean climate. Armilla enjoys over 3000 hours of sunshine a year. The town dates back to pre-Roman times, and was a silk center in the days of the Kingdom of Granada. Armilla is a rejuvenated community. The new Feria de Muestras, constructed in the old Santa Juliana sugar refinery, is a venue for conferences and shows. The new Technological Park of Health Sciences is a vanguard of medical education and technology. Adjacent to it is the Capilla Real, which has the tombs of Spanish monarchs and (allegedly) a piece of the True Cross. There is also the 16th century Palace of King Charles V, said to be the best Renaissance palace outside of Italy. It was designed by Pedro Manchuca, a student of Michelangelo.
