La Calahorra is a town of 21,060 inhabitants in the province of La Rioja, in northern Spain, near the autonomous community of Navarre. It stands on a hill along a bank of the Ebro river, right where the Ebro joins with the Cicados river. It was the most important city in the region for the Romans, when they settled the Iberian peninsula. Julius and Augustus Caesar had apparently built a circus, baths, and even a money mint in the city. Some hotels in La Calahorra stand right next to the remains of Roman structures.

The city's prominence extended into the Middle Ages, to the point that a cathedral was built there. Presently, the Calahorra Cathedral is one of the city's biggest attractions. Another attraction is the gothic Church of San Andres, whose construction began in the 16th century. One more 16th century ecclesiastic attraction in La Calahorra is the Convent of the Barefooted Carmelites (or, "Convento de las Carmelitas Descalzas").
