Azpeitia is a town in the province of Gipuzkoa in Spains Basque country. Azpeitia is the birthplace of Ignatius de Loyola. He was a Spanish knight, hermit and priest who founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) and is recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as a saint. The Sanctuary of Loyola now stands on the site of his birthplace and boyhood home. It has an impressive dome that is 65 meters high. The basilica has been compared to St. Peters in the Vatican.
