Boadilla del Monte is a comparatively small town of 34,783 inhabitants, in the region of Castile, Spain. It is just to the west of Spain's capital, Madrid. The name "Boadilla" derives from "Bobadilla," which itself is a diminutive of "Bobada," Spanish for "bull's way." In 1625, Philip IV of Spain sold the village--then part of Madrid--to his vassals in order to help refill the crown's depleted coffers. In the 18th century, the Bourbon Infante don Luis built a vast palace there.
