The stadium is being expanded, and will be included as part of Madrid's bid towards the 2016 Olympics - and so it has all of the latest facilities and will be complete in 2012. It is currently used for many events, especially athletics, but is being expanded so that it can be used for football.
The Stadium currently has a capacity of 20,000, but once the expansion is complete it will seat 73,000 people. Once it is completed, the football club Atletico Madrid will move there from their current home of Vincente Calderon Stadium, and the club has paid for the expansion works.
