If you like art, then make sure you check Reina Sofia Museum. The museum opened in 1992, and was one of the most modern art galleries in the world. The building itself was originally set up as a hospital but after it was shut down, the building was declared as a national monument. It was later used for art exhibitions.
It now houses permanent exhibitions as well as temporary ones, and has expanded into an additional building. The art museum contains pieces dating from the 19th century to the present day. It contains over 20,000 pieces including sculpture, drawings, prints and photographs. There are many significant pieces including some by Dali and Picasso.
