Tourists that love opera will enjoy e Teatro Real in Madrid. This historic building was completed in 1850, and was not always used as an opera house, although it has now reverted back to its original function. Throughout history it has been used as a Conservatory, but it was closed (due to structural concerns) for almost 40 years, then was again reopened as a concert theater. In the 1990's, the theater was again remodeled to fulfill the need for an opera house, and is now home to the Madrid Symphony Orchestra. The Teatro Real hosts about 17 operas per year, typically in conjunction with other European opera companies.
The Teatro Real is located directly across the street from the historic Palicio Real, or the Royal Palace of Spain. Tourists of Teatro Real in Madrid will be treated to a glimpse into the luxurious Spanish design and art that adorns both of these magnificent buildings. Once inside the Teatro Real, the breathtaking view of the massive columns, arched ceiling, ornate fixtures and lighting will be truly a memorable part of your vacation to Madrid. There is a store within the building that caters to classic music lovers, as well as a restaurant that is situated in the original ballroom.
