The town of Torrelodones is situated 30 miles and offers bags of culture, history and entertainment to the visitor. As well as a perfect place from which to explore Spain's capital, the town has plenty to offer in its own right, with many sights remaining from its links with the royal road to the San Lorenzo monastery. Perhaps the most striking is the Canto del Pico mountain, which sits more than 1,000 metres above sea level and is topped by a palace.

Visitors might also want to head to the watchtowers, a series of ninth-Century defensive positions largely preserved and declared a national monument in 1983. The 'new bridge', which having been built in 1583 means it is somewhat mis-named, sits on the river Guadarrama and is another hot spot for tourists, as are the ornamental fountain Fuente del Cano, and the 17th Century Church of the Assumption of Our Lady.
