Adeje is a town located in the south of the Spanish island of Tenerife. Its population, as of 2001, consists of 27,640 inhabitants. Farming has traditionally dominated the economy here. During the last 20 years, the tourism and commerce have superseded farming in their domination of the economy. The town offers easy access to a surprising variety of geographic features: a dormant volcano, Mt. Teide, looms over the town to the northeast, with forests surrounding its slopes. Mt. Teide stands above a low valley of arable farmland. Meanwhile, the Atlantic Ocean lies to the southwest of the town.
Points of interest in and near Adeje include Siam Park, the biggest water theme park in Europe; the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Casa Fuerte, a dramatic ruined fortress.
