Seville Hotels and Accommodation
Sevilla (Seville) is Spain’s fourth largest city and the jewel of Andalusia. It is a city rich in history, culture and beauty. Author James Michener wrote, “Seville doesn’t have ambience. It is ambience. This is the city of Carmen and Don Juan, of explorers like Magellan, and artists like Velazquez. Here you can watch a bullfight, listen to guitars and castanets, or see a flamenco show. Try to plan a vacation in Sevilla, because you will want to come back if you’re here for only a weekend. Sevilla certainly has its famous sites, but people who have visited Sevilla say the city itself is magic.
Sevilla has so much to see. A must is the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza. This eighteenth century bullring is one of Spain’s oldest and is famous for its Baroque façade. Nearby is the Torre del Oro, a crenellated Moorish tower that was built in the thirteenth century to protect the port. It now contains a maritime museum. Any art lover must visit the Museo de Bellas Artes. This is a seventeenth century convent converted to house one of the best art collections in Spain. Sevilla’s cathedral, Santa Maria de la Sede, is the third largest church in Europe, and the largest Gothic style church in the world. It took 120 years to build and is a treasure house of art and relics. A funerary monument in the cathedral is said to hold the bones of Christopher Columbus, but quite likely the remains are those of his son, Diego. Another church that must be seen is the Iglesia de la Magdalena, a baroque structure completed in 1709. The Hospital de la Caridad, founded in 1674, is still in use as a sanctuary for the sick and elderly. These are but a few of the wonderful attractions that await the visitor in Sevilla. Sevilla has accommodations of every description and hotels in Sevilla have rates to suit every travel budget. There are many forms of transportation, including horse drawn carriages to take visitors from their Sevilla hotels to the city’s famous sites.
