Founded by the Greeks and traditionally an important port city, in the last hundred years Salou has become one of the most popular tourist destinations on the northern Spanish coast, with visitors coming for weeks on end or simply for the weekend. Salou, because of its long history, has a rich heritage in addition to its many beaches. One of the most celebrate sites is the Torre Vella. Visitors who like theme parks may enjoy Port Aventura, and Gaudì enthusiasts will like Paseo Jaime I. During the year several popular festivals take place, in addition to, of course, Carnaval and Semana Santa.
