High in the mountains of north east Spain lies Torre del Compte. Dating back to medieval times, this compact town looks down over the Matarrana River flowing through a wide valley. At an elevation of 1630 feet above sea level, the town is typical of the many rural villages in the Teruel province. It has many stone built houses along its narrow streets. In the 1200’s there was a castle in the village, ideally located as the town is high on the hillside. The castle was destroyed in the 1400’s.
