Bétera is a small town located in the Valencia, a region of eastern Spain. The town dates from pre-Roman times, when the indigenous peoples of Spain, the Iberians, settled there. But the Romans also founded a villa in the area, as a recent archeological find shows. The town that exists dates from the 1500s, and was founded in hopes of escaping the Black Death. Besides Roman ruins, there are some remnants of the Moorish settlers of Spain, at the Torre de Bofilla and the Castle, if you want to do some historical spelunking on your weekend. Two religious sites that attract many visitors are the Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción and the Ermita de la Divina Pastora, and there is also the monument to the Marqués de Dos Aguas. Bétera is not all history, though. The Mediterranean is very close-by and can be reached by car easily. If you ask at your hotel, they may have some tips on more secluded beaches to visit.

Bétera celebrates a city-wide festival from August 12 to 22 to honor the Virgen de la Asunción. If you are in town during this time, be ready for rowdy good cheer. To find good rates on hotels in Bétera, it will be good to plan ahead. Start looking on EasyToBook.com for Bétera's discount hotels as soon as you start thinking of going.
