Chiva is a mid-sized Spanish town of about 12,500 inhabitants, located in Spain's autonomous community of Valencia. First settled in the Iron Age, the land that now comprises the town of Chiva was occupied respectively by Iberian tribes, Roman settlers, Muslims, and, after 1247, Christians, who conquered the town under King James I of Aragon. The town was almost totally depopulated after the expulsion of the Moors from Spain in the early 17th century, but gradually recovered. When the railroad arrived in the nineteenth century, this traditional farming town experienced its greatest rate of growth. Today, Chiva is known for holding some elaborate religious festivals. Chiva's Artistic Music Society, comprised of about 100 musicians, is one of the most celebrated in Spain.

The most impressive attraction in Chiva is the Castle of Chiva, still intact, having long outlasted its practical utility. Other attractions are the Torreta de Chiva, a dramatic tower and a striking example of medieval military fortification. Before leaving their Chiva hotels for good, tourists should check out the Hermitage of the Virgin of the Castle. To find budget-appropriate Chiva hotels, tourists should make use of sites such as EasyToBook.com.
