Jijona, or Xixona in the local Valencian language, is a Spanish town of about 7,600 inhabitants. It is situated in the autonomous community of Valencia in the east of the country, abutting the Mediterranean Sea. The town' main claim to fame is candy: specifically, a kind of nougat that the Spanish call "turron de Jijona," after the town. Crossed by the River Monnegre as it empties into the sea, the town is surrounded by stately forests of pine. Mountains border the town to the northwest. Those who ascend the mountains are treated to spectacular views of the Mediterranean, as well as of the sheer ravines surrounding the mountains.

Some of the local attractions include the Castle of Jijona, the Franciscan Convent of Our Lady of Orito, and the Turron Museum--dedicated to the history of Jijona's best-loved export.
