Bilbao is a charming city located in the Basque, which connects Spain and France in the northeast. Although the Basque is its own region, separate from Spain, much of its culture is at least in part of Spanish origin. The city of Bilbao is one place where this is evident. It is both bustling and laidback, and has financial and commercial areas as well as cultural and social, making this a fun place for vacationing families and college groups. The flower shaped, titanium clad Guggenheim Museum is a must-see for those who have an interest in art history. The unusual architecture of this structure is breathtakingly different, and well worth a look from just the outside if time does not permit a museum tour. This museum draws visitors from all over the world. The Museo de Bellas Artes, another wonderful art museum, and the Museo Vasco, rich with exhibits, which depict Basque history and culture, are two other attractions you will not want to miss.
Bilbao’s city hall, built in 1892, is a beautifully designed and decorated structure that is fascinating to see. Guided tours of city hall are available, which take about an hour to complete. You can book an air tour of Bilbao and the Basque Coast, take a day tour and see the Basque coastline by boat, or enjoy the Hop-On, Hop-Off tour. A double decker bus goes all over Bilbao, and covers the most interesting areas of the city. You are allowed to get off when you like in order to further explore an area. Bilbao’s restaurants feature some of the best Basque food in all of Spain.
