Bilbao is the principal city in the Basque Country in the north of Spain, with 354,145 permanent residents. It is the capital of the Basque province of Biscay. Bilboa is located by the sea, and is a major port town, as well as a center of industry. The city was founded in 1300 by the Lord of Biscay, near the site of an ancient village.
