Calatayud is a town in the Spanish region of Aragon, located in the north of the country. It's notable for having one of the longest official titles of any city in Spain. The city's real name is "muy noble, leal, siempre augusta y fidelisima ciudad de Calatayud." The city was built by Moors four miles away from an old Roman settlement. Like many old Spanish cities, it originally served a defensive function, and still has a castle. Hotels in Calatyud tend to look out onto stunning examples of "mudéjar" architecture—that is, the architecture originally associated Muslims residing on the Iberian peninsula after the Christians had taken it over in 1492.

One big attraction in Calatayud is the Church of Santa Maria, whose tower is the tallest work of mudéjar architecture in Aragon. This shows that the Christians picked up many things from the Muslim people they had conquered. Another point of interest is the Moorish castle in the town, one of the oldest such castles in all of Spain. Yet another attraction is the church of San Pedro, where the local courts of Aragon met for the first time in the 20th century.
