Åre is a ski town in the middle of Sweden, not far from the border with Norway. With a population of just 1,300 inhabitants, it is the perfect winter sports getaway. One of the town's major attractions is Mt. Areskutan. Thousands of alpine (i.e. downhill) skiers descend its slopes every winter, and well into the spring (although the season starts in mid-Autumn). For summer tourism, head down to the Are Bikepark, which was the site of the 2007 Nordic Championships. Mountain biking along the slopes of the Mt. Areskutan is a popular summertime activity in Åre.
For quieter entertainments, there's always the Chokladfabrik, where visitors can witness the creation of delicious chocolate treats. There are also scenic walks through the mountains of this part of Sweden. Don't miss the Tannforsen waterfall, which freezes up during the winter. There are lots of hotels in Åre, including some discount hotels if you're on a budget. Check out EasyToBook.com for some of the best deals on Åre hotels.
