Jonkoping Lan is a county in southern Sweden. Its largest community and administrative center is the city of Jonkoping, which has a population of about 122,000 people. The city is located at the southern end of Lake Vattern, Swedens second largest lake. It is said to be the birthplace of the wooden matchstick. Every year at the end of August, movie lovers come to budget hotels in Jonkoping Lan for a five-day film festival. The city of Jonkoping was already a well established trading center when King Magnus Ladulas granted it a charter in 1284. Today the citys beautifully restored Old Town is its most interesting part. Seemingly out of place in this pre-Industrial Revolution setting, but nonetheless fascinating, is the Radio Museum, in which you can see just about every type of radio that was ever made. Also worth visiting is the Jonkopings Lan Museum. Among its rather eclectic collections are some works by Swedish artist John Bauer, best known for his representations of gnomes and trolls. Set in a former match factory is the Match Museum. The worlds first matches were made on this spot in the 1840s. Just outside of town in the district of Rosenlund is the Rosenlundsbadet, one of the biggest indoor swimming poll complexes in Scandinavia. For families staying in discount hotels in Jonkoping Lan, this is a great place to bring the children. The most popular restaurants and bars are along the harborfront pier.
