Kiruna, Sweden is the country’s northernmost city. It is just 145 kilometers from the Arctic Circle. Kiruna is a very small town, but is popular with tourists. During summer, visitors enjoy the excellent hiking trail, the Abisko National Park and the great rafting on the Kalix and Torne Rivers. Some people come simply to experience the summer’s midnight sun. The Kiruna Festival is a music festival held in early summer where concerts are enjoyed in the midnight sun. There is some wonderful architecture to enjoy in the city centre, including the church, which is one of Sweden’s largest wooden buildings.

The skiing and dog sledding are very good here in the winter, and many people come to see the Northern Lights, too. There is an Ice Hotel here, which is also popular with winter tourists.
