Aarau Hotels and Accommodation

Scenicly located on the River Aare, the town of Aarau is the capital of the northern Swiss canton of Aargau. This community, which was first granted township privileges in the 13th century, is a wonderful place to spend a vacation or even just a weekend. Aarau has old neighbourhoods that are still marked by narrow streets and steep gables. Guests staying in Aarau hotels can easily reach the town’s main sites. On the town’s highest point is the Schlossli, an 11th century castle that is now a museum. Visitors can also see the 16th century Town Hall with its Romanesque tower, and the 15th century Stadtkirche, a Gothic church. The Aargauer Kunsthaus is a fine gallery of modern art. There is also Naturama, a museum of natural history. Aarau is a good base from which to explore other communities in this part of Switzerland.
