One of the more unique attractions that you will encounter on your journey across Switzerland, the Pharmazie Historiches Museum, or the Museum of the History of Pharmaceuticals, offers up a fascinating look at the history of not only medicine in Switzerland, but the development of medical science the world over.
The museum features lots of interesting baubles and trinkets from the age of medicine past, including dried animal hearts and other gruesome remedies and ointments that sound like they come straight out of a witch’s cauldron. More than just being devoted to medical oddities, however, the museum also pays tribute to a lot of legitimate medical advancements that were made in this region, such as the contributions of scientists Erasmus von Rotterdam, as well as Paracelus. You’ll find remnants of their lives and works here, as well as an assortment of period equipment such as lab equipment and apothecary gear.
