Liestal is a town of approximately 13,000 inhabitants in the north of Switzerland, in the canton of Basel-Country (it is the capital of the canton). For its small size, the town has a substantial industrial sector, with many businesses and factories. The town's history during medieval and early-modern times is punctuated by conflict with and occasional violence against much larger political opponents, from the Burgundian Princes, to the Hapsburgs, to the larger neighboring city of Basel. Today, tourists are still attracted by Liestal's well-preserved medieval quarter.
The main sight of interest in Liestal is the Toerli, an old, pointy-roofed tower dating to medival times. Other interesting locations are the Catholic Parish Church of Brother Klaus of Liestal, and the Liestal City Museum. For hotels in Liestal, check EasyToBook.com.
