City Center Fribourg

Fribourg is a town of approximately 33,000 inhabitants, situated in the Swiss canton of the same name. It stands on a broad plateau, straddling the Saane/Sarine River. A modest trading town in the Middle Ages, Fribourg became a major economic and industrial center after the construction of the Swiss Railroad in the 1870's. It remains a hub of commerce to this day, with many people from the surrounding suburbs commuting into Fribourg to work. At the same time, Fribourg is popular with tourists because the medieval part of town is remarkably well-preserved. Its Old Town has more and better-preserved medieval buildings than any other city in Switzerland.
