Geneva, Switzerland, is one of the world’s great cities. Set at the western end of Lake Geneva and on the banks of the Rhone River, Geneva is the headquarters of the United Nations and the birthplace of the International Red Cross. The Palais des Nations is a landmark building. Whether you are here for a vacation or a weekend, Geneva will have something for you. Geneva is a very cosmopolitan city, but for all its world importance, it is somewhat compact, making it that much easier to explore. Guests staying in Geneva hotels have much to see, but a good place to start is the Old Town. Here visitors can see the 13th century Cathedral St-Pierre and Maison Tavel, the oldest house in Geneva, which now houses a museum. Maison Rousseau is the home in which the philosopher Jean-Jaques Rousseau was born. Place du Bourg-de-Four was once the market place, but now the square is surrounded by art galleries and cafes. Among the many museums to be seen is the Museum of the International Red Cross.
