Maloggia, otherwise known as Maloja, is a Swiss village located at the highest point of the Maloja (or Maloggia) Pass, in the mountainous canton of Graubunden (or Grisons). This Alpine village is a truly minuscule settlement, with no more than 300 permanent residents. From a geographic, geological, and botanic standpoint, the area around the village of Maloggia is one of the most interesting in the Alps. The village is surrounded by high mountains and is in the middle of a chain of lakes, all of which are accessible to the enthusiastic hiker.
Lake Sils is the major natural attraction in Maloggia, with opportunities for swimming and surfing during the summer months. If you're more interested in cultural attractions, take a look at the medieval Belvedere Tower, or at Gottfried Honegger's 1997 modern art installation "Culur"; alternatively, visit the "Casa Segantini," studio of the nineteenth century Italian painter Giovanni Segantini.
