Neuchâtel hotels and accommodation

The Swiss city of Neuchatel is on the western shore of Lake Neuchatel, 20 kilometers (twelve miles) from the French border. Many of the buildings are made from a pale yellow limestone. This led the writer Alexander Dumas to say that Neuchatel looked as if it were carved out of butter. Neuchatel is famous for its watches, its precision engineering and its wines. There is a wine festival every September. Whether you come here for a vacation or just a weekend, Neuchatel is bound to have something to stir your interest. Guests staying in Neuchatel hotels have plenty to see and do. A good place to begin your tour is the Ville Ancienne (Old Town). This district is dominated by the 1,000 year old castle called Chateau de Neuchatel. A walk around the ramparts is an unforgettable experience. You will also want to see the Eglise Collegial, a 13th century Gothic church which houses a tomb known as Le Cenotaphe. Then go to the Maison des Halles, the 16th century market hall, and the Latenium Museum.
