Hotels in Nidwalden
Nidwalden is located in central Switzerland by Lake Lucerne and surrounded by the Urner Alps. About one third of the Swiss Canton of Nidwalden is covered in green alpine forest and glaciers. The lake and the mountainous area make Nidwalden a popular summer escape for tourists who enjoy outdoor recreation. Highlights of a getaway to Nidwalden include the Mt Titlis Glacier; hiking through Stanserhorn, which is known as the flower mountain; the worlds highest outdoor lift at Hammetschwand and for speed freaks zooming down the summer bobsled course at Wirzweli. Nidwaldens Railway Safari and a visit to the Hergiswil Glass Factory are also popular tourist attractions. It seems that Nidwalden has been inhabited since Neolithic times and by Celtic people in Roman times. Nidwalden was one of the first three cantons to form the Swiss Confederation in 1291. Today the canton is filled with picturesque alpine villages that look like they have just stepped out of a story book.
