Sachseln is a region in the Swiss canton of Obwalden. It is made up of the villages of Sachseln and Flueli-Ranft. Sachseln is on the shores of the Sarnersee, and dates back to the 12th century. Flueli-Ranft is revered as the birthplace of Switzerland’s own St. Nicholas (1417 – 1487). This is a good place to make a stopover during a vacation, or even spend a weekend. Sachseln is close to facilities for skiing and other winter sports. In the summer months guests in Sachseln hotels can enjoy hiking or cycling through beautiful countryside, as well as horseback riding, paragliding, tennis, volleyball and climbing. Lake Sarnen offers a variety of water sports such as canoeing. The fishing is great, too. The Brunig Railway passes through Sachseln, and is a fun trip for all ages. This community is also not far from the Titlis, which people can climb or ascend by cable car. Sachseln is a good base from which to explore this part of Switzerland.
