When it comes to staying in central locations in Switzerland, you can’t do much better than a discount hotel in Gersau, Switzerland. Gersau is both a district and a town in the region of Schwyz. The first written mention of Gersau was in 1064 and it has changed hands many times among royal families. At one time, the town was actually an independent miniature state within Switzerland, but in 1817 it was annexed as part of the Schwyz canton.
If you are staying in a budget hotel in Gersau, you will enjoy being so close to Lake Lucerne. The town is wonderfully quiet and isolated, protected from too much cold on one side by the Rigi-Hochfluh mountains and on the other by the lake. In fact, until the mid 1800s, the only way to reach the town was by water or by traveling from the town of Lauerz over the Gatterli Pass. You can still trace this route today.
