First mentioned in historical chronicles in 1477, the French Swiss village of Chavannes-de-Borgis was once a major center of agriculture, due to the fertile soil of the Vaud canton in which the small settlement stands. Presently, despite its low population (less than 1,000 as of 2003), this quaint Swiss town boasts a number of important businesses. These businesses include a publishing house, a shopping center, and innumerable local craftsmen's shops. There are also many hotels in Chavannes-de-Borgis that take advantage of the town's fortuitous location near the A1 road from Geneva to Lausanne.
Visitors would do well to check out the Chapelle de Bogis-Chavannes at the north end of the village, as well as Slatkin Reprints publishing house. Not far from the village is the French border, and just beyond it the Lac de Divonne, a small, but notable, and very beautiful, lake. Horse lovers can watch the races at the nearby Hippodrome de Divonne.
