Situated inside the spectacular Musee Cantonal de Beaux Arts, the Musee Cantonal de Geologie is Switzerland’s premiere museum and conservatory for the science of geology. It’s intended purpose is to educate the public about the importance of the rocks, minerals, and elements that make up the earth, and how they impact the lives that we lead upon it.
There’s a huge and widely celebrated exhibition that is dedicated to showing off the process of evolution up to the modern day, through a huge number of immaculately preserved fossils. For those who like crystals, the Renevier gallery in this museum is one of the world’s nicest exhibitions, including fluorescent crystals that are simply breathtaking to behold. In addition, this is one of the few museums in the world where you can find a nearly complete Wooly Mammoth! Be sure to stop in and take a look if you’re travelling in the Lausanne area as a Swiss tourist.
