Built in 1782, the Grand Palace is one of the sights in Bangkok that has a rich historical background. It is surrounded by defensive walls that enclose the whole area. Inside the palace complex are government offices, royal residences and the Royal Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The complex is divided into four sections each with its important function.
