Loei is the capital city of the province of the same name in northern Thailand. It has the dubious distinction of being one of the few places in Thailand where the temperature regularly gets below 0 Celsius, so be sure to have a room lined up via EasyToBook.com or another local hotel provider before arriving. Bordering Laos, the region is mountainous, with a variety of hiking, biking, and river adventures available. Posh hotelsin Loei and spas are not much in evidence as this area is more targeted to the nature lover.
Outdoor sights to see consist primarily of mountains and river settings. Some of the main peaks are Phu Kradueng, Phu Luang and Phu Ruea. The main river is the Loei, which flows in to the Mekong. Various dam projects and reservoirs have been created by the government here, so the watersports, while less adventurous than other places, are still available to the traveler. Regional dishes often feature the tamarind, as it is much found in this area.
