Loei is the capital city of the province of the same name in northern Thailand. Bordering Laos, the region is mountainous, with a variety of hiking, biking, and river adventures available. Outdoor sights to see consist primarily of mountains and river settings. Some of the main peaks are Phu Kradueng, Phu Luang and Phu Ruea. The main river is the Loei, which flows in to the Mekong. Various dam projects and reservoirs have been created by the government here, so the watersports, while less adventurous than other places, are still available to the traveler. Regional dishes often feature the tamarind, as it is much found in this area.
