This southern province is right in the heart of Thai tourist country, bordered by the popular destinations of Krabi and Phuket and Surat Thani, where ferries leave for the busier islands of Ko Samui and Ko Phangan. James Bond fans will know the needle-shaped limestone rock formation off the coast off Phang Nga bay well – the isle featured in the 1974 film “The Man With The Golden Gun” and is a hotspot for enthusiasts of the cult spy series. The bay itself is now a protected national park, and comprise the Similan islands, one of the country's finest diving destinations. Other interesting attractions include Khao Lak, which is home to the stunning Chao Pho Khao Lak Shrine, Laem Pakarang whose pine groves make it good for camping and relaxation and the Ton Chong Fa Waterfall, a truly breathtaking piece of natural beauty. As well as diving and beachcombing, there are plenty of other activities in which to participate in Phang Nga, notably elephant cave trekking around Tham Phung Chang, rafting in the Tom Pariwat conservation area and kayaking through the mangroves and limestone coves along the coastline.
