Hotels in Phetchaburi
Phetchaburi is a province in the central part of Thailand, and an area which is most likely to be crossed on trips from Bangkok to the beach resorts of the south but which is also home to no shortage of beauty and history in its own right. Travellers normally head to the main part of the district, the ever-popular beach resort of Hat Chaam, a classic Thai resort which offers plenty to the modern tourist while retaining its old country charm. The royal city of Phetchaburi itself dates back to the 8th Century and is home to several royal temples, or wats, built by the Khmer hundreds of years ago.Other highlights of a trip to this province include the Maruekhathaiyawan Palace, a vast beachside wooden building which was the holiday retreat of the King of Thailand in the 1920's. Fourteen km south of Chaam is the Huai Sai Wildlife Breeding Center, where animals of many exotic species are conserved. If nature is your thing, you might also take in a rafting trip in the Kaeng Krachan national park, the largest in Thailand and still mainly unexplored. The park boasts year-round jungle in the Tanaosri Ranges and is a breathtaking sight to behold.
