    Trat Details

Famous for its production of gemstones, the province of Trat is bordered on the west by Cambodia and on the south by the Gulf of Thailand. Given its proximity to neighboring Cambodia the Cardomam mountain range acts as a border between the two - it is no surprise to learn that for centuries the town has been a gateway to the eastern kingdom and remains so to this day. As well as several breathtaking wats, the province is also home to two major islands, Ko Kut and Ko Chang. Trat's temples are a sight to behold, and the oldest, Wat Buppharam, has recently been the subject of a regeneration and tidying-up project. Wat Bot has the honour of being the only royal temple in the province, and was once used as a place to hold the oath of allegiance ceremony. There is an old ordination hall of Ayutthayan art serving as a Wihan called Wihan Yotha Nimit for storing many antiques.
